The International Meistersinger Akademie (IMA) in Neumarkt i.d.OPf. offers emerging artists an exceptional environment of excellence in the study of opera and Lied/Mélodie. Our prestigious staff and guest professors bring their expertise to the vocal and interpretive development of the young professional. The opening opera gala and an open-air concert are planned with the Nuremburg Symphony Orchestra. A Liederabend in the acoustically famous Reitstadel of our host city Neumarkt i.d.OPf. will be recorded by the Bavarian Radio/Studio Franken and Craig Terry (Lyric Opera of Chicago) will lead an open-air Cabaret concert. Language coaching in French, Italian and German is considered an important facet. European agents, promoters, opera directors and festival managers are invited to hold auditions, give seminars and to take part in roundtable discussions with the young artists, thus providing the networking and professional contacts important to the profession. Up until the second audition, held before members of the international music industry, you will experience the IMA in an intensely formative manner. Therefore your partner or close friends are welcome in the last week, after the second audition.
Through the IMA, many of our participants have found prestigious management, for example with Askonas Holt, Intermusica London, HarrisonParrott, IMG, and Orlob Berlin. Opera companies who have hired our singers, either in Fest-Contracts or as guests, include Glyndebourne, Covent Garden, Frankfurt, Munich, Hannover, Hamburg, Aix-en-Provence, Lille, Leipzig, Dresden, Geneva, Palermo, Basel, Klagenfurt, Zurich, as well as the Metropolitan Opera in New York. There have also been engagements in opera studio programs in Munich, Frankfurt and Zurich.
The IMA has two main interests at heart. The first is to give singers a larger awareness of their vocal possibilities through excellent instruction, and the second is that we offer a bridge into the career through our network. All instruction and classes have to do with singing and the career. Our teachers all have experience at the top of the profession; for example, the Patron of IMA, opera legend Brigitte Fassbaender, or the renowned recitalist Malcolm Martineau. Edith Wiens teaches voice, and our main coach Tobias Truniger is the Director General of the Young Ensemble at the Munich Opera. The concerts with orchestra, the opera gala, the recital (recorded by the Bavarian Radio) and the Cabaret! Concert are all sold-out performances in front of enthusiastic audiences. The bridge to the career is made possible through two auditions for approx 30 general managers, opera directors, casting directors, and agents. All who join us at IMA are personally invited and are trusted members of our industry. All singers receive personal feedback, and the list of engagements that result from these auditions is long. We expect that our singers are vocally stable and ready for the entry into the profession, be that into an opera studio, as a guest or as a „fest“ member of an opera ensemble. We are looking for singers who bring along charismatic personality and are strong, authentic artists. Ideal are singers between 22 - 30, although we have regularly had a young apprentice with us as well. We look forward immensely to hearing you!
